The A2 perpetuates the success of our A1 record player, building on our range of mechanical, fully automatic turntables. The A2 allows you to select the lateral location where the tonearm drops to the record groove. Make this selection with the dial for 7″ records (45rpm singles) or 12″ (33 or 45rpm vinyl records). For additional flexibility, we’ve added 78rpm to the speed selector dial, allowing you to dust off your collection of old 10″ shellac records (please manually position the tonearm for 10″ 78s, then use the dampened cueing lever).
Remember that 78s have unusual groove width and are made of different materials than most other discs. We recommend Sumiko’s RS 78 stylus for use with the highly adept Sumiko Rainier moving magnet phono cartridge (it’s mounted & aligned at the factory!).
To enjoy listening to your A2 turntable, just flip the ‘Start’ switch. The tonearm will automatically move to the lead-in groove of the selected record size. Once playing, the automatic tonearm functions are entirely disengaged until the arm reaches the lead-out groove. At the lead-out groove, the tonearm will automatically lift and return to the arm rest and the turntable will shut down. Because the automatic functions are entirely mechanical, they bear no influence over sound quality during playback!
