Take an already impressive amp, add the QXR update and you’ve a truly class-leading product – the Cyrus 82 DAC QXR.
The QXR difference
Featuring a heavily upgraded circuit board, the QXR’s main advantage is the adoption of a reference-quality DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor). Although this improves the sound from all digital sources, the biggest benefit is with USB audio. File quality leaps from 16-bit/48kHz to studio-grade 32-bit/768kHz. It’s also compatible with DSD512 files. Factor in the asynchronous control (so no need to worry about the quality of your soundcard), and you’ve got USB connected sound of the very highest order.
Improved sound with headphones
A further benefit with the QXR upgrade is improved headphone output performance. At the same time as greatly enhancing the DAC, Cyrus improved the headphone amplifier, reducing noise in the circuit for more dynamic and detailed sound.
The power to impress
With power up from the Cyrus 6 DAC’s 57 watts to a punchy 88 watts (at 6 ohms) per channel, the Cyrus 82 DAC QXR has around 50% more grunt than its smaller brother. This makes it a better choice in larger rooms and with less efficient speakers. Even in smaller rooms, however, you’ll still notice a more expansive and dynamic sound – without losing any of the smaller amps renowned precision and detail.
Cyrus sound quality
Hand built in the UK, the 82 DAC QXR shows typical Cyrus attention to detail. Within the high quality casing is an oversized toroidal mains transformer and high output capacitors. Combined with the short signal path circuitry, this delivers typical Cyrus sound – dynamic, precise and with every detail finely etched.
Built-in DAC with USB, coaxial and optical inputs
Featuring a built-in, high resolution DAC and five digital inputs, the Cyrus 8.2 DAC QXR is the ideal way of upgrading all your digital sources at the same time as buying a new amplifier. Older or lower spec digital devices benefit greatly in terms of sound quality by using the high spec DAC built into the Cyrus rather than their own. With two optical and two coaxial inputs you could, for example, connect your TV, set-top TV box, Blu-ray or games console and CD player. The fifth digital input takes the form of a USB interface. This lets you connect your PC or Mac and access stored or streaming music in high resolution.
Upgrade path
There are a couple of upgrade paths available for the 82 DAC QXR, with the first being to add separate power amplification to enable bi-amping. The twin pre-outputs facilitate adding separate power amps, such as the X Power, for future upgrading. There's also the option of adding the famous PSX-R2 outboard power supply - for truly high-end amplification.
Unique Cyrus design and quality
The distinctive Cyrus case offers a number of advantages over more traditional hi-fi. The die-cast casing is extremely solid and strongly resists both electrical and mechanical interference from surrounding sources. Integrated heat sink vents also keep it cool in the most discreet and stylish fashion. In terms of practically, Cyrus is a great space saver, with two units taking the space of one on most hi-fi shelves.
Supercharge your computer audio, with the Cyrus 82 DAC QXR.
